Planned Giving
By making a lasting legacy by including Greater Springfield Habitat for Humanity in your estate plans, you will be helping families who want to build better lives for themselves and their children. You can support Habitat in your will by choosing to give:
- a percentage of your estate
- a specific amount
- specific property, such as stock, bonds or real estate
- part or all of the residual of your estate - whatever is left after all beneficiaries have received their bequests
- a combination gift arrangement, such as a certain percentage plus residual
You may find that you can make a larger gift than you ever thought possible, by giving "what's left" in your retirement account, 401k, pension plan, or other retirement planning vehicle. This allolws you to provide for your family first, then your charitable interests.
Many people have life insurance policies that they originally took out to protect mortgages that have since been paid off or educational plans that have been completed. These policies make excellent gifts. Alternatively, you may decide to assure a large gift by purchase a new insurance policy. If you name Habitat for Humanity as the irrevocable owner and beneficiary, the premiums are tax-deductible.
Talk with your financial advisor, attorney or accountant to consider the best option for you.
If you have questions or would like to make known your charitable intentions, please contact Sarah Tsitso, Resource Relations and Communications Manager, at tsitso@habitatspringfield.org or call (413) 739-5503.
